§Monk

Monks live were often called “Masters of Melee”. Some things never change!

§Why a Monk?

The EZ monk is probably the best single target melee class on the server. Their inherent melee skills mean constant “white” damage superior to most other classes, and once you add strike augs they take top of the heap (or very close to it) for melee DPS throughout every tier.
As with any other NS melee the monk class really doesn’t come into its own until you spend a bit of cash and some farming getting them strike augs and sorcerer or UC charms. But once you do they do an extraordinary amount of damage from procs, and they have discs that improve combat for the group. In addition, monks have very strong defenses that allow them to avoid damage, making them a great choice for melee dps for your team!

§FG or CG?

For guild quests you’ll want to do Fighters Guild on the monk. Since they are straight melee they won’t benefit from Caster’s Guild.

§AA

Once you’ve hit level 70 you’ll want to start working on monk AA. There are a lot of choices here that can help them in their main role: melee dps!
When initially selecting your AA you’ll want to get the first basics the same as any class: max run speed, max planar power, max combat agility and stability, mystical attuning, discordant defiance and max lung capacity. After that you want to start maxing ANYTHING offense. A list of some “must haves” in no particular order:

  • Natural Durability
  • Concentration
  • Destructive Force
  • Sinister Strikes
  • Slippery Attacks
  • Stonewall
  • Delay Death
  • Ferocity
  • Physical Enhancement
  • Anything Ingenuity
  • Veteran’s Wrath
  • Weapon Affinity
  • Combat Fury
  • Strikethrough
  • Ambidexterity
  • Critical Mend
  • Heightened Awareness
  • Rapid Feign
  • Rapid Strikes
  • Kick Mastery
  • Return Kick
  • Technique of Master Wu

These will increase your offenses, and since your main role is dps they are great choices! For anything else read the description of the AA and decide what you want first.
Abilities, Charms, Augs

As  melee dps monks will eventually want ninjastrike augs, as well as Icestrikes for non NS aug slots (before T7). They will of course also want UC (and high priority) but before then they will want sorcerer’s charms.

Monks get a nice variety of abilities and disciplines. The above AA list will give you some ideas of what to use during combat right off the bat, but additionally you might like Rapid Kick, Fists of Wu, Tranquil Focus and more! Many highly recommend learning and using these!

Airplane has two items, one that helps quite a bit, one not as much. The first, Crab Fu: Way of the Quickening Fists, adds 200% haste (which on EZ does pretty much nothing, as delay is hard capped) and adds 150% crit chance to all skills (which adds up). It also increases minimum and maximum damage modifier from skills. Fantastic clicky to use….make sure its in your general rotation for the monk! The other is Leesette’s Kick of Fatality, which is 10K to 15K DD (not worth clicking over Crab Fu).
