§Magician

Magicians combine command of powerful, deadly servants with a wide array of offensive and support spells to make possibly the most powerful pet class on EZ!

§Why a Magician?

Magicians on EZ can be a very strong class. Initially, as with many classes, they don’t seem like much. But once you start getting into the 4.0 epic pet and beyond they get a lot stronger….pets are harder to kill, their procs are heavier and their cast spells do more damage.

But the best thing you can do for you mage other than UC is to get a mana necklace! No, mages don’t have an issue with running out of mana….but if you have a mana neck and cast damaging spells (NON dot, with a cast time) you have a chance to trigger an effect that gives your pet a short duration buff that makes them proc an icestrike proc of the same level as your mana neck. Additionally any of  the procs are now increased by UC or UC2 (100% increase per rank). This makes for very nice pet dps!

Mages also have a very nice damage shield (up to 7500, modified by recipient’s UC), can CoH and get a spell that, when you target another player, gives them a pet necklace that gives the pet a ton of hit points, armor and resists. A well played mage has a lot to offer on EZ!

§FG or CG?

The mage benefits most from casters guild.

§ AA

Once you’ve hit level 70 you’ll want to start working on mage AA. There are a lot of choices here that can help them in their main role: caster AND pet dps!

When initially selecting your AA you’ll want to get the first basics the same as any class: max run speed, max planar power, max combat agility and stability, mystical attuning, discordant defiance and max lung capacity. As a pet class pet affinity is a major must have! And as a casting class Innate Enlightenment is a must have! After that you want to start maxing ANYTHING for casters. A list of some “must haves” in no particular order:

  • Natural Durability
  • Channeling Focus
  • Delay Death
  • Fury of Magic
  • Gift of Mana
  • Mastery of the Past
  • Persistent Casting
  • Shared Health
  • Spell Casting Mastery
  • Spell Casting Subtlety
  • Spell Casting Fury
  • Elemental Agility
  • Elemental Alacrity
  • Elemental Durability
  • Elemental Fury
  • Frenzied Burnout
  • Quick Damage

These will increase your offenses, and since your main role is dps they are great choices! For anything else read the description of the AA and decide what you want first.

§Spells, Charms, Augs

As pet and spell dps mages will eventually want the mana necklace for the sympathetic proc that adds icestrike to pets. This is almost a class defining item on EZ, so do not pass it up! They will of course also want UC (and high priority) but before then they will want sorcerer’s charms.

Mages get a multitude of abilities and spells. The above AA list will give you some ideas of what to use during combat right off the bat, but it really is the spells that will make your mage (unlike live you aren’t just a pet master….pet dps here is completely dependent on you casting as well).

Mages get no custom spell drops in Qvic, but they make up for the lack in CT. Mages add the first rank of Malos Malignance (resist debuff that adds to all spell/proc damage done to the mob), the first rank of Incinerating Aura (heavy damage shield, scales up based on recipient’s charm) and Elemental Tower which buffs fire and cold resists over cap. T2 you get the first rank of your summoned phantom necklace (adds tons of resists hps and AC to pets). T3 gets mages a new pet heal, Legend of Shylo Renewal, and T4 they add a quick cast heavy damage spell, Shylo’s Bolt of Doom, as Tower of Calliav, a pet rune. Finally in T5 mages get (for now) their last two new spells (further spells are upgrades to existing spells listed), Taelosian Victory, which is their heavy nuke, and Elemental Rage, a very strong pet offensive buff.
