§Abyss

Frustrating, exciting, challenging, annoying! The Abyss, in the old Illsalin zone, will either be your favorite or your nemesis. But there is no denying that after you've finished this zone, you're emotionally trained to handle pretty much anything EZ has to throw at you!

Abyss, or T5, is in the Illsalin zone. This zone and contents are half above ground, half in the water, so plan for underwater combat (breathless AA, underwater breathing device or buff is needed). When you port in you are on a bridge with the normal planar NPC's behind and on the ledge above the water, along with an NPC named Greetings. He sells the zone vellum, of course, and is also the quest NPC for this tier. When you hail him he offers a task for the 100 named kill in this zone. Get this task on every character; completing this task is what allows you to get the 5.0 epic, which is necessary to continue on to the next tier. Also you will find the gratuitous zone trap at zone in, the Frigid Guardians. Dont fight near them, and make sure your bard isnt twisting an area song that can agro, such as harmonious comp; if these agro your group its a huge pain. I guess management REALLY doesnt like us fighting at zone in :P

The concept for this tier is triggered or spawned named. Named can be triggered in a variety of ways: time, random when all mobs of one type die (upon the last mob's death), random when you kill any of one type mob or by killing a trigger mob that starts a spawn chain. Figuring out whats spawned where can be tricky, so to help us we'll use some of the map tools allowed in MQ2. When you zone in, type /maphide npc. This will remove all 400 trash mobs and 7 NPC's from the map, but any time a newly spawned mob appears it will show on the map, allowing you to easily see it. This is invaluable! An alternative is to leave all mobs on the map and type /highlight NPC (#,#,#), using a color that somewhat blends in to the map background. Any new spawns will show up a different color. Some prefer this method, but many like /maphide better for its simplicity. Either way the EZMapstuff file has a way to set your MQ2 to automatically perform /maphide when you enter Illsalin....but you will have to refresh it if you repop an instance, and it will redo maphide on any character that dies and rezzes or runs back into Illsalin.

Also, modifying your map for the zone will help! Included in the EZMapstuff file is the illsalin_3.txt file, which when dropped into your map folder in your EZ server client will show trigger locations on the map. This helps a ton!

 

§Pulling the Trigger

§Arms/Boots

Bosses that drop Arms and Boots are 100% guaranteed spawns. If you wipe out all of a specific type of mob, you are guaranteed to spawn a boss somewhere in the zone that will drop arms/boots.

§Helm/Gloves

These bosses are called "Rares", they have a very small chance to spawn when killing a certain type of mob.

§Bracers

These mobs are timed. In 30 minutes, you will see one spawn, and 30 minutes later another will spawn. The first timed mob will despawn as the next one spawns regardless of you engaging it or not. If you soft reset the zone (leave it empty for 5-10 minutes) or you issue a "repop instance" command, this timer is restarted. These two actions will despawn all triggered mobs, events, and bosses in here and the tiers to come!

§Chest/Legs

These bosses are spawned from Trigger mobs. There is, in the zone, one mob of every type that is a designated trigger. Killing this mob has a chance to start a chain. The most common and accepted methods to see these spawns are to use the aforementioned /maphide npc, or type "/highlight npc" upon zoning in on your main character. From this point, all mobs will appear on your map as a purple color, and any new boss or mob spawned will appear in yellow, white, or blue depending on your level. To give a quick example, you zone in and type /highlight npc, you jump off the bridge and swim south until you reach the next bridge and kill the Blue Coral underneath it. This has a chance to spawn any trash mob somewhere in the zone, which upon dying will spawn a second trash mob anywhere in the zone. They will be the only mobs on your map showing up non-purple. Upon killing the second random trash mob, a Chest/Legs boss will spawn.The location of each is listed below.

§***ALERT!! ALERT!! ALERT!!***

ONE THING ON TRIGGERS: If the last mob you kill of any species is a chain trigger (listed under the BP/Legs section) then that boss for killing all that type mob WILL NOT SPAAWN. This goes for both the arm/boot bosses AND White (epic mob). Make sure your last kill isnt a chain trigger!

§Random Drops

Spells and essences both have a chance to drop off bosses, as well as trash. You will also find weapons for the tier (to slot in epic augs), as well as charm upgrades and occasionally heroic resist augs.

§Leeching, Buying and Etiquette

Quite often higher end players will kill here farming essences. While most do this in an instance so they can mass pull, you might find some working in public. Remember that, if you do leech off of essence farmers for kills, you do not loot anything killed unless they offer! These are NOT your kills, or your drops, until they say "loot up". If you're after armor and drops ask them if its ok if you take what they dont need. I'd always offer a tip or an essence or two to players who let you ride along.

In addition many players will gladly take payments to kill mobs they spawn. Some offer those kills in OOC regardless, but you can /auc that you're paying for whatever named kill. Again, dont loot until they say you can! This is not just good manners, its a server rule: if you didnt kill it, you dont loot it, PERIOD, til the owner of the corpse says you can!

§Setting Yourself Up for Success

You will want to get as many UCs done during this grind as possible. My advice is to start with your warrior / pally UC'ed at a minimum, as well as start your warrior's SOA. Upon finishing this grind, you will want your warrior's SOA caught up to the Abyss Essence Level, and all of your melee UC'ed to begin tier 6. Just bounce between doing Tier 5 and UC farming / token farming until you can't stand it anymore, then go to tier 6  Grin

§Whitesnake (I really wanna see Tawny Kitaen on the car now)

The 4.5 boss is WHITE (you guessed it....a giant snake). Kill all corals. DO NOT DO THIS IN PUB. If there is one coral missing, aka someone popped in and killed a coral trigger to try and get a BP boss to spawn and then left, it will BREAK your 4.5 spawn cycle if it respawns. The only safe way to do 4.5 runs is to make your own instance and start from scratch. Again, the last coral to die cannot be a chain trigger, or no epic boss!

§Lotto Boss

Kill all 400 trash mobs in the zone and a random boss will spawn in the Alkari building, it can be any of the 100 bosses.

§Moving On

Once you finsih all the tasks you will get a huge platinum bag for each block of the kill 100 quest completed (five total). Full completion also allows you to hail the Greetings NPC and get your 5.0 book, and access to T6!
